Kefalonia airport: getting from EFL to your resort

Kefalonia airport sits on the south-west coast, just 8 km from Argostoli, so the capital and the Lassi resorts are minutes away while the north takes well over an hour. This guide covers the flights and their seasons, taxis, the summer bus, car hire at the terminal and realistic drive times to each resort.

Where Kefalonia airport is

Kefalonia Airport "Anna Pollatou" (EFL), also listed as Kefallinia or Cephalonia, lies on the coast of the Livatho area, next to the village of Svoronata and about 8 km south of Argostoli. It is one of the 14 regional airports run by Fraport Greece, which built a new terminal of 10,700 m² with 12 check-in counters and six gates. Inside there are cafés, a duty-free shop, ATMs and Wi-Fi; there is little to do, so do not arrive hours early.

If you want to stay close by, the nearest resorts are Svoronata, with Ammes beach at the end of the runway, and Lassi, the island's busiest resort, about 10 minutes away. Both suit a short stay or a late arrival; for longer holidays, compare the areas in where to stay in Kefalonia.

Flights and seasons

Kefalonia is a summer airport. According to Fraport Greece, it handled 893,697 passengers in 2025, but only about one in eight of them between January and May; the rest came in summer and early autumn. International flights run roughly from April or May to October, and from November to April the only scheduled link is usually to Athens, flown by Olympic Air and Sky Express.

From the UK, Jet2 flies from nine airports in summer 2026, from Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stansted, with the season running from 2 May to 31 October. easyJet, Ryanair, TUI and British Airways are also on the airport's list of airlines. From Germany, Condor flies weekly in summer, and from Italy ITA Airways (Rome, in high summer), Volotea and Aeroitalia serve the island. Schedules change every year, so check your airline's timetable.

Taxis from Kefalonia airport

The taxi rank is directly outside the terminal. Taxis are metered, with a higher tariff at night; ask the driver for an estimate before a long journey. As a guide, travellers report roughly €20–25 to Argostoli and around €90–100 to Fiskardo.

When several flights land together in summer, the queue can be long and there are not always enough cars. If you are going to the north or the south-east, or arriving late with children, a pre-booked transfer with a fixed price and a driver waiting in arrivals is usually less stressful.

Buses: KTEL Kefalonia from the airport

KTEL Kefalonia runs a seasonal bus between the airport and Argostoli via Lassi, a few times a day; the stop is to the left of the main entrance of the departures building. It does not run in winter: in 2026 the daily service ended on 20 October. From Argostoli bus station you can change for the villages, but those routes are thin, sometimes one bus a day or a few a week, and timed for residents. KTEL publishes its timetables on ktelkefalonias.gr rather than a bus map, so check them for your dates.

Car hire at the airport

Avis Budget, Enterprise and Hertz Thrifty have desks in the arrivals hall, and many local firms deliver cars to the airport car park or meet you at the exit. Book well ahead for July and August, when automatics and larger cars run out. Read our guide to car hire in Kefalonia for licences, insurance and the mountain roads.

Drive times from Kefalonia airport

Kefalonia is larger than it looks, and roads wind over and around the mountains. Approximate times by car in normal traffic: Argostoli 15 minutes, Lassi 10 to 15 minutes, Lourdas 20 to 25 minutes, Katelios 40 to 45 minutes, Skala 45 minutes to an hour, Sami about 45 minutes and Agia Efimia 45 minutes to an hour.

The north takes longer: Myrtos is about 50 minutes and Assos about an hour, and Kefalonia airport to Fiskardo is 1 h 15 to 1 h 30 for about 55 km. For Lixouri, drive to Argostoli and take the car ferry across the gulf, or allow about an hour by road. Coming from the mainland instead? See ferries to Kefalonia.
